Wait a day before you buy it

October 25, 2026 · Yehuda · Worksheets

If it isn't food you need tonight, a medicine, or a bill that is due, leave it in the cart. The 24-hour rule is only that. The purchase waits until tomorrow, and you find out whether you still want it when the tab is not glowing.

Write three lines before you sleep

The price, with tax if the page shows it.

The job the thing does. "I like how it looks" can be true. Also write the job: a pan, a charger, a game you would play this week, a shirt for a trip that has a date.

What you already own that does a version of that job, even a worse version.

If you can't name the job, the morning is usually easy. Close the tab.

In the morning, put it on a paycheck

Open the budget builder and see which slice the purchase comes out of. A lot of these carts are wants. If the wants money for this paycheck is already spoken for, the cart can sit until the next one. If you are saving for something that has a name, a move, a trip, a laptop, the savings goal worksheet will show what this purchase does to the month you were aiming at.

Then buy it, or don't. Buying it on purpose counts. So does closing the tab.

What doesn't have to wait

Groceries for tonight, a prescription, a part that keeps the car running, a bill with a late fee if you miss today. Those are not the carts this rule is for. The rule is for the thing that showed up while you were bored, or while the product page had a timer on it. That timer belongs to the store.

The 30-Day Money Quest has days built around this kind of pause. The three lines fit on a scrap of paper. You don't need another app to hold them.
